I have a friend who is a stellar crafter of small notes. In college, she'd send them through campus mail no matter how tiny they were or how few words they contained. After college, she'd leave them on the refrigerator in one of my old cupboards. Now, I receive them in the mail: elaborate letters with pages that hinge together, scraps of paper with recipes and drawings {sometimes even a flipbook}, and scanned images of fabric and lace. She's an artist, natch. But she's also a lover of correspondence and typography, so I really luck out when it comes to snail mail.
Are you a frequent writer of letters?

what a fantastic post! i have a few friends plus my parents in England who do not have a computer so I do keep my hand in snail mail. I invested in a parker fountain pen and a million stickers to decorate each note. When my husband I were keeping up long distance relationship (he in USA me England) he used to write me letters and would always include hand drawn cartoon characters on the sides of the paper. They usually involved french berets, fishnet stockings and monty python quotes!!
Clare: How completely adorable! I'm sure you've saved all those love notes. I adore the idea of writing to your parents by hand. Mine are internet-savvy, but I still receive handwritten notes from my mom (I love pulling a letter from the mailbox and seeing her script across the front).

ReplyDeleteoh this makes me want to send letters, however big or small, all the time! there is nothing more exciting than getting something in the mail!
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss campus mail! I used to be so good about sending random little notes, but I have to admit I've fallen off track. I should get inspired.
