The Box Labeled Ephemera

I collect all manner of odds and ends for inspiration, embellishment, and correspondence. Everyone is always curious to know what's in the box labeled Ephemera. Here is a peek:

Old library cards are great for sweet, little notes. They have a vintage-feel and are the most pleasant mint-green color.

Egads! Glassine envelopes are my favorite! They are translucent with a slightly waxy finish and they are a lovely alternative to the standard paper envelope.

I find that odd scraps of paper, wrapping and otherwise, are always worth saving. Whether saved for color inspiration or shredded for pretty packing material, paper scraps are a large part of my ephemera box.

What bits do you save?

  1. :)) I remember Donald in a comics magazine, he was an obsessed collector and Huey, Dewey and Louie were very upsed because they didn't have any space at all in the house. Until Donald brought a gorilla and it ruined the entire collection. But Donald, instead of being discouraged, said that now he has new space to collect other things. I've recently found myself in the same situation. I've been collecting all kind of paper scraps since childhood in a suit case that has taken a strange form because of the burden :)). I sorted the papers and I couldn't belive what a bunch of useless things could be put in a suit case! But they were mostly memories than re-usable things...

  3. Oh, by the way: among the things that I didn't throw away are some old postcards found at my grandparents' place. I have in mind to start painting on them. I guess I'll post them here: http://lachrysomelereveuse.blogspot.com/ (anyway, they look better when PC manipulated :)) )

  4. Dia: I love the idea of a suitcase filled with bits of this and that! I also have several memento boxes for all kinds of "useless" things that have some significance to me. Sometimes these boxes get too full and won't close :/ I suppose that means I should weed them out a bit, huh? Also, I checked out the old postcards you've painted ... How beautiful!

Jess: Thanks for your comment and for stopping by. I've long admired your blog :)

  5. I'm the exact same way! I always keep pretty scraps of paper, envelopes, etc., because I can't bear to toss them. I just "know" I'm going to use them someday!

I'm also with you on glassine envelopes...I love them, too!
