Curiosities

Bizarre illustrations from a small book I bought ages ago -- maybe cost me $ .50. I only wanted the book because of these pictures and the hilarious front cover, but now I sort of wish I'd saved the whole thing. I love that I can look at these and feel simultaneously amused and disturbed. Click to enlarge, and check out the level of detail. I have no idea what the story is ... but if you can decipher that cover, do tell me what it says!

  1. Loving you wood floor backdrop! Perfect. It just so happens to be my favorite characteristic of my house.

  2. My friend in Japan sent me this answer this evening.
The translation is "Bokko-Chan" and underneath is the name of the name Mr. Shinichi Hoshi.
Bokko-Chan doesnt actually mean anything but comes from Ana-bokko or Ana which means Hole. Chan often comes after a childs first name after his friends call him/her. I suppose this story might be related to holes.Mr Shinichi Hoshi is a famous essayist whose books I read a lot when I was a child.
